  • Kindergarten registration time is here

    SANFORD– Parents with children of kindergarten age in the Lee County School System are reminded that its time for kindergarten registration for the 2012-13 school year.  Registration takes place at each elementary school in the district.  The child must be five years old by August 31, 2012.  Parents should take with them the child’s birth certificate, immunization record and two proofs of residence-an assigned affidavit of an oral lease agreement, deed, or closing statement in the name of the parent/legal guardian.  The other proof of residence may include a utility bill for the residence, property tax bill, or a home visit by a Lee […]

  • Narcotics team makes another arrest

    SANFORD–The Sanford Police Department’s  Tactical Narcotics Team arrested 19 year old Austin Lee Prillaman of 907 Evans Drive on  outstanding warrants for possession with the intent to sell marijuana, sell and delivery of marijuana, maintaining a vehicle to keep drugs and possession of drug  paraphernalia.  He was placed in the Lee County Jail under a $2000 bond.

  • Former Co-House Speaker Richard Morgan is back in the saddle again

    SOUTHERN PINES–Former House Speaker Richard Morgan has filed to run as a Republican candidate for state insurance commissioner.  He will face Mike Causey of Greensboro in a Republican primary, with the winner vying for the post currently held by Democratic incumbent Wayne Goodwin in the fall.  Morgan is an insurance broker and cattle farmer from Moore County.  He is a former House member who rose to be co-speaker with Democrat Jim Black in 2003.

  • The campaigning is officially underway

    Filing for the May Primary ended at noon Wednesday with a large number of candidates filing at the last minute.  Locally, realtor David Nestor filed for one of four seats open on the Lee County Board of Education and Mark Lilly filed for one of the At-Large seats on the Lee County Board of Commissioners.  The School Board race is non-partisan.  The top four candidates will be declared winners in the Primary. Local attorney Nichole Phair of the Phair Firm filed for the eleventh Judicial District judgeship seat currently held by O.   • Two injured in car-truck collision

    SANFORD- Two persons were injured, one seriously, in a two vehicle accident involving a pick-up and a Honda passenger vehicle Wednesday afternoon at Charlotte Avenue and Third Street.  One of the victims appeared to have been ejected from one of the vehicles and was lying in the roadway.  The other passenger, identified as a 70 year old male, complained of chest pains and was transported to Central Carolina Hospital for treatment.  After difficulty in getting Air Care to come to the site because of weather related issues, Wake Med agreed to come to Central Carolina Hospital and transport the passenger, however, that trip […]

  • Today is D-Day for filing for the May Primary

    SANFORD-The books will close at noon today for filing for the May Primary.  Voters in Lee County and the district will have many candidates to choose from as the list continues to grow.  The latest to file in Lee County is Max Dolan, a Republican, who filed Tuesday afternoon for one of the three At-Large seats on the Lee County Board of Commissioners.  He   is joined by fellow Republicans  Frank Del Palazzo, Kirk Smith, incumbent Larry ‘Doc’ Oldham, and Democrats Amy Dalrymple and Ricky Frazier.  Seven candidates, including two incumbents, are seeking the four seats open on the Lee County Board of […]
