    SANFORD–Organizers of the annual Small Business Expo and Small Business banquet are busily preparing for the two events scheduled next month at the Dennis A.   • Permit now required to transport copper in Lee County

    SANFORD–Local authorities have been dealing with the theft of copper for a long time.  Businesses, churches, power companies, etc. have been victimized by copper theft from air condition units and other devices.  After a search of various codes and state laws, Sheriff Tracy Carter said detectives were able to apply one of the laws to the theft of the coveted material which brings over $3.00 a pound, in most cases.  Effective now, persons transporting over 25 pounds of copper must get a permit from the Sheriff’s office.   • Fire destroyed a Harnett County home early Thursday

    LILLINGTON–A house fire early today destroyed a home, but occupants were able to escape.  According to reports from WRAL, the fire on NC 24-27 was reported around 3 AM Thursday.  All members of the family were able to get out safely.  Cause of the fire has not been deytermined.     George Zimmerman Booked, Charged with Second Degree Murder

    (JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who admits he shot unarmed Florida 17-year-old Trayvon Martin on Feb. 26, was charged with murder on Wednesday and has been taken into custody. The charge of second degree murder was announced by Florida special prosecutor Angela Corey at a news conference Wednesday evening. If convicted of the charges, Zimmerman, 28, could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.     (NEW YORK) — An original Titanic launch ticket, currently valued at between $50,000 and $70,000, is among a series of Titanic-related items set to be auctioned off on April 15 by Bonhams auction house in New York. Also included in the lots are letters from survivors and memorabilia from the 1953 and 1997 films. The auction will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the ship’s sinking after it hit an iceberg only four days into its maiden voyage.     Two USC Students from China Shot, Killed Near Campus

    (LOS ANGELES) — A shooting at the University of Southern California early Wednesday morning left two international students dead. Ying Wu and Ming Qu, both graduate students in their 20s, were shot at 1 a.m. while sitting in a BMW near campus. Wu was shot through the front passenger seat of the car.  Qu ran for help but collapsed and was found on a nearby porch, the Los Angeles Police Department confirmed.     California High School Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sex with Student

    (FRESNO, Calif.) — A California high school teacher is under investigation after her arrest on charges that she allegedly had sex with a student.
