    SANFORD–Michelle Bullard, Lee & Chatham’s new American Red Cross Director, said she is watching tropical storm Isaac.  Bullard said the Red Cross is preparing for what could be a large disaster response across multiple states over the next several weeks, as 15 million people are now under warnings from Isaac.   • Final prep underway for 10th annual senior care giver expo

    SANFORD–Thousands are expected to fill up the Dennis Wicker Civic Center Wednesday for the opening of the 10th annual Baby Boomer Care giver Expo.  Doors will open at 10 am following a 9:45 a.m. ribbon cutting.  The Expo was kicked off Saturday evening with the first, ever, oldies sock hop that benefitted the Helping Fund.     Trace Adkins and Kristin Chenoweth have signed on to host the American Country Awards for a second straight year this December. This is the third year for the fan-voted show broadcasting  live from Las Vegas. Trace says, “I’m looking forward to cutting loose again with Kristin, who’s quite the firecracker comedienne, while we also take viewers through an evening of great music and awards.” The American Country Awards air on Monday, December 17 at 8 p.m. Eastern time on Fox.     Storm Surge, Rainfall Biggest Concern as Isaac Nears

    (NEW ORLEANS) — Isaac remains a tropical storm with a chance of becoming a weak Category 1 hurricane before it makes landfall, but forecasters say the biggest threat will be rainfall and the storm surge. Forecasters have projected landfall as early as Tuesday night — a day short of the seventh anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.  On Monday, New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Isaac’s similar path as Katrina and the anniversary was leaving much of the Gulf Coast on “a high level of anxiety.” Winds will be an issue initially when Isaac makes landfall with gusts up to 75 mph.  […]
