Perhaps Josh Turner said it best:  “It’s a heavy day for country music.”

The South Carolina native was just one of many stars who shared their condolences on social media, after news broke Friday that both Country-Music-Hall of Famer Don Williams and Montgomery Gentry‘s Troy Gentry were gone.

The 78-year-old Williams died after a short illness. 50-year-old Gentry was killed in a helicopter crash in New Jersey.

Here’s how the country music family reacted to the deaths of both Don Williams and Troy Gentry:

Josh Turner:  “I’m speechless. Pray with me for the family of Don Williams & especially the family of Troy Gentry. It’s a heavy day for country music.”

Big & Rich:  “2 legends lost at once. Troy Gentry and Don Williams will be missed so much. Praying for their families and may they rest in peace.”

Lee Brice:  “The world changed today. Country music lost both a Friend and a Hero. Troy Gentry and Don Williams, you both will be dearly missed.”

Jerrod Niemann:  “No! Not Don Williams & Troy Gentry. My thoughts & prayers go out to their families. Thank u for the amazing music & for inspiring us all.”

Easton Corbin:  “Just heard the news about Don Williams and Troy Gentry. Country music lost a hero and a friend today. My heart goes out to all.”

Rascal Flatts:  “Shocked and saddened by the sudden, tragic loss of Troy today. He was a friend and a good man. Prayers go out to his precious family.”

Brothers Osborne:  “So tragic. Met him a few times and he was so kind and welcoming. Great singer and even better person. Thoughts and prayers to his family.”
