Home / Music News / Heroes & friends: How Cole Swindell went from butterflies to besties with Dierks Bentley

Now that Cole Swindell has traveled to the top of the chart with “Flatliner,” the Georgia native isn’t too proud to admit he had butterflies in his stomach when he recorded the song with his hero, Dierks Bentley.

“I had met Dierks before and knew he was a great guy, but I’d never been in the studio with him, him singing on a song I wrote…” Cole explains. “I was nervous. I don’t know…I didn’t want him to think I was not deserving to be there, or whatever it is,” he laughs.

Since then, Dierks and Cole have not only had a #1 song together, they’ve also spent most of 2017 on the road together on the What the Hell Tour.

“He just makes you feel so comfortable, and he’s just one of those guys,” Cole says of Dierks. “You know, you always do hear that sometimes you don’t want to meet your heroes. But… I’m so glad I know him, I’m glad to call him a friend.”

As Cole, Dierks and Jon Pardi wrap up their last couple weeks on tour together, Cole is releasing the follow-up to “Flatliner” — a track from You Should Be Here titled “Stay Downtown.”
