In addition to being a CMA-winning female vocalist and Mrs. Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood is a best-selling cookbook author and the host of Trisha’s Southern Kitchen on Food Network. So who better to settle the dressing versus stuffing debate at Thanksgiving?

“My grandmother had a recipe for basic cornbread dressing that she made my whole life,” Trisha recalls. “So I think a lot of it is what you grew up on, you love. And everybody’s thing is different. Dressing or stuffing? Everybody likes theirs, because it’s very much how they were raised. But I loved hers, because it was really basic and simple and good… it’s my favorite thing on the table at Thanksgiving.”

Whatever your preference, Trisha believes carrying on family traditions are important, especially during the holidays.

“My grandparents are, of course, gone. My mom and dad are gone. My mom made it. She taught us how to make it. So it connects you to your family… because you’re getting to make these recipes that have been passed down from generation to generation,” she says.

Just as soon as season eight of Trisha’s Southern Kitchen wraps up at Christmas, she’ll be back in January for season nine. You can catch new episodes Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. ET.
