(CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.) — At least six students are dead after a school bus crash in Chattanooga, Tennessee, according to the district attorney’s office.

Police in Chattanooga said the bus struck a tree in a single-vehicle accident.

There were 35 kids on the bus with grades ranging from kindergarten to 5th grade, according to police. Officials said 23 were hospitalized.

Police did not say how many students were killed as the scene was still active, and parents and next of kin were still being notified.

Speed was being investigated “very, very strongly as a factor in this crash,” according to police.

The driver of the bus survived the accident and was questioned by police.

The National Transportation Safety Board said it would deploy a team to Chattanooga to investigate on Tuesday morning.
