(MEMPHIS, Tenn.) — Nine people, including five children, were killed in a house fire in Memphis, Tennessee, in what the Memphis Fire Department called the deadliest house fire in the city since the 1920s.
Four adults and three children died at the south Memphis home, said Memphis Fire Department Director Gina Sweat.
Firefighters broke down security doors to get inside.
Three children were taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital where two of them died, officials said. The third child was listed in extremely critical condition, officials said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
