(LIVINGSTON, Calif.) — Five people were killed after a charter bus collided with a freeway sign pole early Tuesday morning in Livingston, California, a town between Sacramento and Fresno.
The collision happened around 3:30 a.m. local time on Highway 99 northbound as the bus headed from Southern California to the Sacramento area. After the bus hit the sign, the sign went through the passenger side windshield.
About 30 people were on board. Five were killed and an unknown number of others were injured.
The northbound side of the highway was closed down as emergency crews extricated people from the bus.
The cause of the crash is unknown.
