(FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla.) — A manhunt is underway in Florida for an accused killer who escaped from a Broward County courtroom on Friday.

Dayonte Resiles, 21, was able to slip out of his prison jumpsuit and shackles before making a run for it down the stairs from the fourth floor of the courthouse and out a back door, according to authorities. He left his uniform and shackles in a hallway of the courthouse, police said.

“Next thing I know, this guy jumped from the jury box and he started running,” said an eyewitness who was in the courtroom.

Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Saturday the accused murderer had an accomplice and the escape was pre-planned. He described him as 5′ 10”, 170 pounds with tattoos on both arms, and as “armed and dangerous.”

“We are actively serving search warrants and applying for search warrants as we speak,” Israel said.

“We have begun an investigation under the direction of internal affairs. We will look at every aspect of this escape,” he said.

Broward County officials have already searched apartment complexes in the area and homes of Resiles’ relatives. Authorities are offering a reward of $10,000 for information leading to his capture.

Resiles is accused of stabbing a woman to death two years ago in a burglary and faces first degree murder, burglary, grand theft and weapons possession felony charges.
