(LINCOLN, Neb.) — Police are looking for two “dangerous” convicted sex offenders who escaped from a Nebraska prison, authorities said.
Armon Dixon, 37, and Timothy Clausen, 52, were declared escapees about 12:30 p.m. when neither were present for an inmate count at the Lincoln Correctional Center, according to the Nebraska Department of Correctional Services.
The men are considered dangerous and should not be approached. Both Dixon and Clausen were convicted of sex assaults, their criminal records show.
Escape procedures have been activated, and state and local police agencies have been notified. It is possible the men may have taken shelter at an unoccupied home in the area south of Lincoln, ABC News Lincoln affiliate KLKN-TV reported.
Lincoln Correctional is medium/maximum prison. It is unclear how the men escaped.
Around 9:30 a.m., a 911 call reported that two men wearing tan pants and gray shirts were running north on U.S. Highway 77, Omaha.com reported. The clothing was “very similar” to what Nebraska state inmates wear, the Lancester County Sheriff’s Office told Omaha.com.
