(NEW YORK) —  Two cops were wounded in an officer-involved shooting in California’s Bay Area, according to the Fremont Police Department.

The incident began during a traffic stop around 1:33 p.m. Wednesday, police said. During the stop, the suspect backed into the officer with a car, and shots were fired.

One officer was then rushed to a trauma center, and the suspect fled on foot. Shots were then fired at a second location, resulting in the second officer being injured and taken to a trauma center. The condition of the officers is unclear.

One or possibly two suspects are on the loose, police said, describing the main suspect as a Hispanic adult male, approximately 6 feet tall and and wearing shorts and a San Francisco Giants shirt.

Police were unable to confirm if the suspect was injured in the encounter.
