After the huge success of Dolly Parton’s made-for-TV movie based on her classic, “Coat of Many Colors,” it’s now official — NBC is making a sequel.
Dolly Parton’s Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love will recount the rural Appalachian family’s struggle through an unexpected blizzard, as Robert Lee Parton strives to give his wife Avie Lee the wedding ring he’s never been able to afford. At the same time, a pivotal figure in Dolly’s life starts to recognize her budding talent.
The entire cast of the original movie will return, with Jennifer Nettles playing the superstar’s mother and Ricky Schroder starring as her dad. Alyvia Alyn will reprise her role as the childhood version of the entertainment icon.
Last year’s Coat of Many Colors was the most-watched made-for-TV movie in close to seven years. The premiere date for Circle of Love is yet to be announced, though it’s expected during the 2016 holiday.
