(SAN FRANCISCO) — Dozens of arrests were made Friday night in San Francisco when protesters clashed with police in riot gear outside City Hall.
Officials said 33 were arrested, including 19 women, 13 men and one juvenile who was not booked, according to ABC News affiliate KGO-TV.
The demonstrators have called for the firing of San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr after several recent police shootings. Several racist and derogatory text messages between officers were also discovered.
A group of people, known as the “Frisco 5,” have been holding a hunger strike to force Mayor Ed Lee to fire Suhr. They were hospitalized, but are refusing to be force-fed as they continue their strike, according to KGO-TV.
