(SAN ANTONIO) — A Training Squadron Commander and a Training Squadron student were identified as the two airmen who died in a “workplace violence” shooting at a San Antonio, Texas, Air Force base, the Air Force said Saturday.
Air Force Lt. Col. William A. Schroeder, a Training Squadron Commander, and Air Force Technical Sergeant Steven D. Bellino, a Training Squadron student, were found dead inside an office at the Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland Medina Annex Friday morning, the Air Force said.
Officials said Friday that two weapons were found at the scene. The Air Force did not release further details about the incident.
The Air Force said officials are still investigating.
The FBI added that Bellino had been an FBI Special Agent for less than two years and that he resigned in May 2013.
Brigadier Gen. Trent H. Edwards, the commander of the 37th Training Wing, where both members were assigned, said in a statement: “The 37th Training Wing mourns the loss of our Airmen and family members.”
Brigadier General Robert LaBrutta, the commander of the 502nd Air Base Wing and Joint Base San Antonio, said: “The 502d Air Base Wing and all of Joint Base San Antonio convey our thoughts and prayers to the families who were impacted by this tragedy and our entire focus is to ensure they have the support they need to persevere during this very difficult time.”
