(CIMARRON, Kan.) — Multiple injuries have been reported after an Amtrak train derailment near Cimarron, Kansas, early Monday morning.
An Amtrak statement said the train operating from Los Angeles to Chicago and carrying approximately 128 passengers and 14 crew members “derailed several coaches.”
Twenty passengers were transported to two hospitals after the derailment just past midnight local time, according to Amtrak. Other passengers were taken to a recreation center in Cimarron, where alternate transportation to their final destinations will be arranged.
The Red Cross and “other relief agencies” were on the scene to provide assistance to passengers, Amtrak said.
