(WASHINGTON) — Authorities in Prince George’s County, Maryland said a police officer was shot outside a district police station on Sunday.

Police said the officer was critically wounded in the shooting.

Prince George’s County Assistant Fire Chief Alan Doubleday told ABC News one person was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

Residents who lived near Prince George’s County Police Department headquarters were told by authorities to shelter in place.

There was no immediate information available about the shooter(s).
