(LORAIN, Ohio) — After a 2-year-old girl was allegedly snatched by a stranger outside a Lorain, Ohio, home, her desperate mom placed a call to 911, begging authorities to help her.

“My daughter is missing and she’s only 2,” the mother can be heard telling the 911 operator in a recording of the call obtained by ABC affiliate WEWS.

The 2-year-old, later identified as Lana Lowther in a Lorain Police Department press release, went missing Wednesday night and was found hours later and returned to her mother, but the fear in the mother’s voice is clear from the call.

The mother told the operator that her 10-year-old daughter saw Lana go outside when “she thought she heard my husband’s truck.”

The 10-year-old saw someone “grab [Lana] by the hand and run off with her,” the mother said between sobs.

She added: “[The 10-year-old] said she yelled ‘Lana!’ really loud and she started to cry and they took off running.”

“Take a couple deep breaths,” the dispatcher counseled the distraught mom. “They’re going to find her.”

And they did: Lana was found wandering in the snow by a local resident at 1:15 a.m. Thursday, four hours after being reported missing, according to the press release. She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for exposure. She is expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

“The Lorain Police Department believes that the condition of this child is not consistent to being exposed to [Wednesday] night’s frigid conditions for more than four hours, and it is very possible that this child was released by an unknown person(s) … shortly before she was rescued,” the statement said.

The investigation is ongoing.
