(HOUSTON) — A grand jury decided Monday night that no one would be indicted in connection with the death of Sandra Bland.
Bland’s death made headlines over the summer when she was found dead inside a Waller County jail cell. A police officer had pulled her over for a traffic stop but she was arrested when the situation escalated after the officer had told her to put out her cigarette.
Investigators say Bland hung herself in the cell.
The grand jury will reconvene in January, however, to consider if there should be charges in her arrest, which was caught on video and sparked an uproar, according to the prosecutor.
Earlier on Monday, Bland’s family held a press conference in Chicago where they said they were confident in the proceedings, reported ABC News affiliate KTRK-TV.
