(WASHINGTON) — More Mexicans have returned to Mexico from the United States than have migrated to the U.S., according to a Pew Research Center report released Thursday.
Using data from both countries, Pew found more than one million Mexicans returned, leading to a net loss of 140,000 from 2009-2014.
The top reason for returning to Mexico is family reunification, according to the study.
Although the report also hints that Mexican opinions about the U.S. could be changing.
“While almost half (48%) of adults in Mexico believe life is better in the U.S., a growing share, 33%, says it is neither better nor worse than life in Mexico – a share 10 percentage points higher than in 2007,” the report said.
