(WASHINGTON) — The National Transportation Safety Board announced Monday evening that they have completed the documentationo of the El Faro debris field but were not able to locat the ship’s data recorder.
Authorities say they still remain hopeful they will be able determine probable cause without the recorder.
“Over the years we’ve completed many investigations without the aid of recorders and other investigative tools,” NTSB Chairman Christopher A. Hart said in a press release.
The ship went missing on Oct. 1 during Hurricane Joaquin.
On Nov. 11, the navigation bridge was found but neither the mast nor the recorder was found in the vicinity of the navigation bridge structure.
