(MIAMI) — Fifty flights were delayed Monday evening at Miami International Airport after a security alarm was triggered over a suspicious bag.
A passenger’s carry-on luggage looked suspicious, so authorities closed two security checkpoints and searched the bag.
A statement released by American Airlines Monday says, “A passenger on American Airlines flight 2393 from Miami to Barbados was taken into custody by local law enforcement at MIA. We are working closely with law enforcement while ensuring the care of our customers the best we can.”
The passenger was reportedly a dentist whose dental equipment triggered the security alarm.
The scramble to find the suspicious bag was triggered at the TSA checkpoint, sources told ABC News. A screener saw something suspicious and the bag was ordered to a secondary checkpoint. But another TSA officer reportedly moved the bag to another belt, not realizing it was to be checked.
“There is no safety issue or threat related to the incident,” an FBI Miami statement said. “The passenger was cooperative and faces no charges.”
