(CHICAGO) — Illinois began selling medicinal marijuana for the first time Monday.
More than 3,000 people were granted state-issued cards to buy marijuana at eight distributors statewide.
Patients must have their ID and have designated a dispensary with the Illinois Department of Public Health before they can make a purchase.
A statewide digital tracking system has been launched to prevent any diversion of marijuana to the black market.
