The fatal accident happened in the Maryland suburb of Hyattsville, where according to ABC News affiliate WJLA-TV, 12 people, seven adults and five children, were injured and transported to an area hospital.
On Monday, Prince George’s County Maryland Police released a statement saying a pregnant woman involved in the crash had emergency surgery and lost her baby, leading to the fifth death.
A spokesman for Prince George’s County Fire and EMS Department said the crash involved three vehicles, including a pick-up truck and a passenger van.
“The pickup truck had become involved in a crash several hundred feet down the road, left that scene, had proceeded up the road where it became involved in a crash with the van and all the injuries incurring,” Brady told ABC News.
