(RICHMOND, Ky.) — A police officer who was shot in the head in Richmond, Kentucky, after pursuing a lead — has died.

Daniel Ellis, 33, died in the hospital early Friday morning. He had been in a critical condition since the shooting on Wednesday.

Ellis had been pursuing a lead on an armed robbery suspect when he entered a bedroom of a home on Ballard Drive in Richmond and was shot in the head, state police say.

Another officer with Ellis, fired back and hit the suspect, Raleigh Sizemore, 34, state police say.

Sizemore was treated for non-life threatening injuries, arrested and charged with attempted murder of a police officer and unlawful imprisonment, first degree. State police say that charge will now be upgraded to murder of a police officer.

Another man was inside the apartment at the time of the shooting — Gregory Ratliff, he was also arrested. He was charged with complicity to commit murder of a police officer.
