(SAN DIEGO) — A frightening standoff with police halted flights at San Diego International Airport on Wednesday.

A gunman with a high-powered rifle put an entire neighborhood close to the airport on lockdown, after he was holed up in a building.

Police tried to apprehend the shooter in a five-hour standoff as the man was firing out of an apartment window.

Authorities used tear gas to lure the suspect out and the suspect is now in custody.

The airport is now back open.
