(WASHINGTON) — The Department of Education is out with the Nation’s Report Card and it’s not a good one.
For the first time in 25 years, math scores dropped in grades 4 and 8 despite the attention paid to so-called STEM skills: science, technology, engineering and math.
Some concepts included in the test given to fourth graders are no longer taught by the fourth grade in the controversial common core curriculum, and that may at least partly explain the decline.
The Education Department also said reading scores were flat.
