(ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.) — A 4-year-old was shot in the head during a road rage incident in New Mexico, officials said, and the child died Tuesday night.

The circumstances were not clear, but the child was shot while driving with her parents on I-40, Albuquerque police said.

“I have never seen it before,” said Albuquerque Police Department’s Chief of Police Gorden Eden Jr. “I’ve seen tragic loss of children in car crashes. This is one of those crimes that is unexplainable. No way to explain your way out of this. We need to rise up as a community and say enough is enough.”

The child was alive when transported to the hospital.

The Albuquerque Police Department had no suspect as of Tuesday night, and they said they were receiving a lot of conflicting information.

The nature of the fight was not immediately clear.
