(BASTROP, Texas) — Firefighters in Central Texas have gained control of a wildfire, but it’s still burning.
The Hidden Pines Fire has moved through 4,600 acres so far, burning almost 50 homes to the ground.
After nearly 400 people were forced to evacuate, some residents of the area started to return home on Saturday night once officials said the fire was 50 percent contained, but the fight still continues.
“We’re not going to be able to allow anybody back into their home, whether, for any reason, in the fire footprint, anytime soon,” said Bastrop County Judge Paul Pope on Saturday.
Mark Rose, CEO of Bluebonnet Electric Cooperative says some residents may have power restored to their homes before they return home, but even though it’s not an active fire, there’s still danger.
“Everywhere you go you still see fire…You still see stumps burning,” he said.
