(NEW YORK) — The aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D-New York) who was shot in the head during Labor Day weekend festivities has died.
Gov. Cuomo released a statement late Wednesday night. “It is with profound sadness that we learn of the passing of Carey Gabay.”
“Carey was the epitome of an outstanding public servant. He held a tremendous commitment to his community, and he chose to use his many talents to better the lives of others. New York is undeniably a better place today because of his service. He was also a friend and role model to the many people who were blessed to have known him, and he will be greatly missed.”
Carey Gabay, an aide to Gov. Andrew Cuomo, was declared brain dead late on Tuesday.
The family of Carey Gabay released a statement Wednesday, “We are saddened to announce that after an arduous week, Carey Gabay, our husband, son, brother, uncle and friend, has been declared brain dead as of late Tuesday.”
As of Tuesday, NYPD detectives had not made any arrests.
Police have been screening videos of the scene and using facial recognition software to help track down potential shooting suspects.
