(CLEVELAND, Miss.) — A professor was shot and killed at Delta State University in Cleveland, Mississippi, Monday, said Bolivar County Coroner Nate Brown.
Authorities identified the victim as Ethan Schmidt and the school’s Facebook page lists him as an assistant professor of history.
At a press conference Monday afternoon, police identified a “person of interest” named Shannon Lamb, an employee of the school.
According to police in Gautier, Mississippi, Lamb is also a suspect in the fatal shooting of a woman he was living with there. Police believe he left the house on Monday to travel to Delta State.
Lamb is at-large, but authorities believe he is no longer on campus, according to the Mississippi Department of Public Safety.
The campus is still on lockdown following the shooting around 10:45 a.m., the school said, and classes have been canceled.
