Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood got their respective stars on the Music City Walk of Fame in downtown Nashville Thursday. More than a thousand fans were on hand for the event, which included brief speeches from both Garth and Trisha.

Throughout the ceremony, the couple stressed how important Nashville has been to their lives and careers.

Garth told the crowd, “What I love about Nashville is that it’s the home of the dreamers, the home of the people that made the leap,” Brooks said. “It’s no question, I’m from Oklahoma. But I cannot thank Nashville enough for giving me a second home.”

Trisha said, “It’s very surreal to have gone from moving here and driving down the streets of 16th and 17th Avenue … to standing here holding this plaque, it’s very emotional. I’m a Georgia girl, always. I’ve never lived any other place that felt like home, and Nashville feels like home.”

She added that she would be visiting her star on the Music City Walk of Fame at least once a week.

Garth was also surprised with the Music City Ambassador Award from the Music City Council. He and Trisha later surprised outgoing Nashville mayor Karl Dean with a star of his own. The country couple formed a mutual admiration society with the mayor as they recalled the nine flood relief shows Garth did in Nashville in 2010.
