(CENTENNIAL, Colo.) — A final sentencing hearing is underway in Colorado, where a judge will hand down a final sentence of life in prison for convicted movie theater gunman James Holmes.
Ahead of the sentencing, those who were impacted by Holmes’ crimes are giving their emotional statements to the court Monday during the hearing which is expected to last through Wednesday. One by one, family members of Holmes’ victims are fighting through emotion as they tell the court how losing their loved ones has impacted their lives.
As the families speak, Holmes, now clean shaven with his hair cut shorter and wearing a red jail uniform, leans back in his chair, staring straight ahead and showing no emotion.
Holmes could get over 3,000 years in prison for all of the crimes he committed.
