(NEW YORK) — A 68-year-old New Jersey man fatally shot a private security guard at a federal building in New York City on Friday afternoon, then turned the gun on himself, officials said.

The suspect shot a security guard at the building and then shot himself, according to authorities. The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, while the security guard was transported to a nearby hospital in traumatic arrest.

The guard later died.

The circumstances of the shooting, just after 5 p.m. on Varick Street, were not immediately clear.
