(SANDUSKY, Ohio) — A man was killed by a roller coaster at Cedar Point Park in Sandusky, Ohio Thursday afternoon, park officials said.

The man, identified by police as James A. Young, entered a restricted area of the Raptor roller coaster and was struck by the ride around 5 p.m., the park said in a statement.

“Information received from friends of Mr. Young is that Mr. Young had rode the Raptor roller coaster and, while riding the ride, lost some of his personal belongings,” said Sandusky Deputy Police Chief Phil Frost. “After completing the ride, Mr. Young decided to retrieve these items.”

According to the park, the steel roller coaster reaches speeds of 57 mph.
