(NEW YORK) — An incredible satellite photo released by NASA shows smoke from the California fires blanketing part of the state.

Taken in natural color from the Aqua satellite, the photo shows gray smoke appearing to move east, while actively burning areas are shown in red.

There are more than 20 fires raging statewide, and thousands of firefighters working to contain the blazes that have been fueled by hot, dry conditions in the state.
