(PASADENA, Calif.) — A tree fell and hit children near a Kidspace Children’s Museum in Pasadena, California on Tuesday.

Eight children were injured with three in critical condition. Pasadena Fire Department spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said, “We have our urban search and rescue team literally cutting through every limb to ensure that there’s no other victims underneath this tree.”

The giant tree fell on top of campers who were waiting to be picked up by their parents.

Bystanders immediately jumped in and began pulling pieces of the tree off of the victims. John Rouse was nearby with his son when he ran over to help, “We heard some noise and then a lot of screaming and so a lot of us jsut ran right next door here and the tree had just fallen.”

There is no word yet on the cause of the tree fall. Kidspace Children’s Museum CEO Michael Shanklin said, “All the children are accounted for and all parents have been notified.”
