(LOS ANGELES) — A forest fire in the San Berandino Mountains near Los Angeles is growing fast. Flames are racing through thick Ponderosa Pines and campers have had to evacuate the forest.
The forest is thick, with quite a bit of dry underbrush. Firefighters say since the forest hasn’t burned in many years, it could take weeks to fully put out the flames.
In Big Bear, a nearby resort town, resident Gabriella Medina is watching the flames.
“I’ve only lived here for two years, so this will be a first fire for me,” Madina says.
While the fire is still not an eminent threat for Big Bear, it’s heading in that direction, which has many residents, including Jeff Newman, concerned.
“Kind of worried that I gotta pack up and possibly head out of town,” Newman said.
