(SUITLAND, Md.) — A guard at the main gate of the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Maryland was shot on Thursday evening.
Mark Brady of the Prince Georges County Fire Department said the situation was being considered an active situation and that the gunman is believed to have barricaded himself inside the bureau.
Brady said that the guard was shot in the upper body and was taken to a local hospital in “extremely critical condition.”
It was not immediately clear if the guard was a contractor or a federal police officer.
Police have reportedly connected the shooting with a Washington, D.C. police chase. The suspect in the shooting is believed to have committed an armed kidnapping of an individual with a protective order against him.
A federal law enforcement official said that the entitre situation was linked to “some sort of domestic dispute.”
