(SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.) — A building near the campus of California Polytechnic State University left multiple students injured, city fire officials said.

Eight people were injured, San Luis Obispo City Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Gater said. Four of those patients were reported “transported to local ER for what I would consider minor or moderate injuries.”

Gater said that “there were probably around 1,500 students celebrating St. Patty’s Day early, apparently, possibly Mardi Gras — it was a mixed theme.” He added that “it wasn’t an organized party…this party had been organized informally through social media.”

In total, Gater said 40 to 50 people were on the roof of a garage structure that collapse. Other people were underneath or inside the structure.
