(NEW YORK) — A near-collision at New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport on Saturday evening left passengers delayed and a pilot shaken up.
According to JetBlue Airlines’ Manager of Corporate Communications Rick Clark, flight 1295 was scheduled to depart New York at 9 p.m. bound for Austin, Texas. After being cleared for takeoff, the plane began to travel down the runway, only to see another plane cross the runway.
Caribbean Airways flight 526 was the second plane. The JetBlue pilots immediately acted to stop the plane, alerting the air control tower of the incident.
Clark said that the Caribbean Airways flight was not authorized to cross the runway at the time. It was not clear how close the two planes got to one another.
