(SANFORD, Fla.) — George Zimmerman, the man acquitted in a 2013 second-degree murder trial for shooting and killing of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested Friday on aggravated assault charges.
Police in Lake Mary, Florida arrested Zimmerman, 31, on aggravated assault charges for an incident involving his girlfriend.
Zimmerman’s lawyer Don West said on Saturday his client threw a wine bottle at his girlfriend earlier in the week.
A judge granted Zimmerman a $5,000 bond during his first appearance at the Seminole County Courthouse on Saturday.
The 31-year-old is due back in court in February.
