(LOS ANGELES) — Police in Los Angeles released the autopsy report on Monday for a 25-year-old mentally ill man who was shot and killed by officers in August.
According to the documents, Los Angeles Police Department officers attempted to detain Ezell Ford on Aug. 11, when he became physical with them. Officers said Ford attempted to reach for one of the officers’ weapons, at which point he was shot.
The medical examiner noted three gunshot wounds. One bullet hit Ford in the back and terminated in his lower spine. A second bullet hit Ford in the back and exited through his chest, and the third hit him in the upper arm.
The second gunshot wound to Ford’s back appeared to leave a muzzle imprint, the documents said.
The cause of death was determined to be multiple gunshot wounds. Ford’s death was deemed a homicide by the medical examiner.
