(WASHINGTON)  — The mother involved in an alleged attempted child abduction case on a United Airlines flight send a text message to the child’s father just before the plane departed, officials said Friday.

FBI officials grounded a flight bound for China, bringing the plane back to Washington Dulles International Airport after the child’s father contacted authorities.

United Flight 897 was set to depart Thursday afternoon. The mother sent a text to the child’s father just as the flight was getting ready to leave, telling him that she had their son and was leaving the country due to a family emergency.

The man immediately contacted authorities, who found that a custody agreement prohibited the son from leaving with his mother.

The child was reunited with his father shorter after 5:20 p.m, when the plane landed, according to law enforcement. His mother and grandmother were escorted off the plane.

The woman was expected in federal court Friday afternoon.
