(HONOLULU) — Officials in Hawaii have raised the threat level from “watch” to “warning” as lava approaches about 40 homes in the Kahoe Homesteads area.
Darryl Oliveria, of Hawaii civil defense, says the lava flow is uncertain.
“It’s still very difficult to predict with any certainty what direction it would go, how fast it would be moving, because the terrain changes significantly out there, substantial cracks, crevices, and the vegetation itself as well as once it enters a crack, it’s difficult to forecast,” Oliveria said.
