(KANSAS CITY, Mo.) — Police in Kansas City are investigating whether a man accused of assaulting three motel guests at a Motel 6 on Tuesday may have also been involved in a triple homicide earlier that day.
At about 12:50 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the scene of a shooting incident. According to the Kansas City Police Department, five people were found to be shot at the scene. Three of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were taken to nearby hospitals with “life-threatening injuries.”
Later on Tuesday, officers received a call regarding an assault at the hotel, where three people were physically attacked. No weapon was used in the assault.
While officers searched the area around the hotel, they located a vehicle sought in the earlier homicide investigation about four blocks away.
Police later located a suspect in the assault case using the description provided by witnesses. While the KCPD has not determined whether the man was linked to the earlier shooting, he was found to have a gun on his person at the time of his arrest.
An investigation into the incidents is ongoing to determine whether they are linked.
