(BREMERTON, Wash.) — The body of 6-year-old Jenise Wright, who disappeared last week from her mobile home park, has been found, police said Thursday.
The remains were found near Wright’s home in Bremerton, Washington, by an FBI team using search dogs, police said at a news conference Thursday.
“The body will be turned over to the Kitsap County coroners office who will conduct an autopsy. They will determine that cause and manner of death,” said Earl Schmidt, incident commander at the Kitsap County Sheriff’s office.
Jenise was last seen the night of Aug. 2, her family told police. They reported her missing on Sunday night. Her parents waited a day before calling for help because they say the girl had wandered around the park on her own in the past.
The remains were found in a wooded area near the Steele Creek Mobile Home Park, where the girl lived, police said.
A criminal investigation has been opened and efforts are being made to identify a suspect in the case.
