(LANDSTUHL, Germany) — Army Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl, the recently-freed soldier still being treated in Germany for physical and mental strain, contends that he was tortured by the Taliban.
An unidentified U.S. official said that Bergdahl has made these claims to medical staff at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center.
Following his release 10 days ago, Taliban officials maintained that Bergdahl, 28, was treated well during his five years in captivity.
However, his account differs from that of his former captors, charging them with beating and holding him in a cage after he tried to escape.
As for when he can return to the U.S., doctors say Bergdahl is not ready yet to meet with his parents and other family members even though he has regained enough strength to travel.
