(LOS ANGELES) — A hand grenade discovered in a carry-on bag at the Los Angeles International Airport this week resulted in the the closure of a terminal and the arrest of an individual allegedly involved.
Officials closed the Terminal 1 checkpoint while the Explosive Ordinance Disposal team transported the Mk 2 hand grenade to an offsite location to be disrupted, according to a TSA statement released Friday.
It is unclear when the incident occurred. Officials say five flights were delayed for two hours and 19 minutes, affecting 800 passengers.
The individual faces felony charges in Los Angeles County.
“We continue to find inert hand grenades and other weaponry on a weekly basis,” officials said in a statement. “Please keep in mind that if an item looks like a real bomb, grenade, mine, etc., it is prohibited.”
