(BOSTON) — Former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez pleaded not guilty Wednesday to a fatal shooting in 2012.

The former athlete is accused of killing two men outside a Boston nightclub.

Prosecutor Patrick Haggan said the shooting allegedly stemmed from a spilled drink in the crowded club.

Haggan said Hernandez had become sensitive about being disrespected at nightclubs, and had hidden a gun in the engine block of a car on loan from a dealership as part of a promotion. It was from that car and with that gun that prosecutors said Hernandez fired the fatal shots.

Hernandez denies the shooting.

Hernandez is also facing charges in the 2013 killing of semi-pro football player Odin Lloyd.
